The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has expanded its board of governors by adding Lisa Bridge, CEO of Ben Bridge Jeweler, and Dr. Wendy Bohrson, a renowned geologist from the Colorado School of Mines.
Why They’re Perfect Fits
- Lisa Bridge: A fifth-generation leader of Ben Bridge Jeweler, Bridge brings extensive leadership experience and deep connections to the jewelry industry. She is a former president of the American Gem Society and actively serves on several industry boards.
- Dr. Wendy Bohrson: With over 35 years of experience as a geoscientist, Bohrson has made groundbreaking contributions to the study of volcanic processes and magma systems. She holds a PhD in geology from UCLA and a Bachelor of Science in geology and biology from Stanford University.
“Lisa’s business acumen and Wendy’s scientific expertise add invaluable perspectives to our board,” said Lisa Locklear, chair of the GIA board.
Shaping the Future of the GIA
The new members will join other prominent board members in guiding the GIA’s mission of consumer protection. GIA president Susan Jacques remarked, “Their leadership will strategically guide the Institute in fulfilling its important goals.”
Research on the Cutting Edge
Ahead of the board meeting, GIA’s research team held its 14th annual gathering to discuss breakthroughs in:
- Diamond and colored-stone identification.
- Pearl analysis.
- AI-driven tools for gemological research.
The team plans to present these findings at the Converge conference in September 2025.
