What is ESG
What is our standard
- Rigorous environmental, social, and governance (ESG) achievements.
- Net-zero carbon footprint.
- Sustainable production practices with zero net impact.
- Comprehensive traceability from source to market.
- Sustainable development investments supporting vulnerable communities to further reduce net impact and contribute to a safer world.
What are the Five Pillars of Achievement
Verified Origin Traceability
Ensures the source of each certified diamond through advanced testing, gemological protocols, oversight audits, and supply chain sampling.
Twelve Principles of Ethical Stewardship
Adherence to comprehensive ESG requirements.
Zero Carbon Footprint
Demonstrates zero carbon footprint through continuous operational improvements, investments in renewable energy, and other climate mitigation measures.
Sustainable Production Practices
Commitment to principles that prevent harm to humans or the environment, actively working to avoid, eliminate, or offset any potential impacts.
Sustainable Development Investments
Investments not only in improving internal operations and supply chains but also in projects that help communities, protect the climate, and preserve the environment.

Eligibility
Producers and Handlers
Both natural and lab-grown diamonds can be certified under this unified industry standard, promoting best practices in both sectors. Companies handling diamonds from source to market are eligible for certification to process and sell certified diamonds if they meet the standard's producer or handler requirements. Eligible companies include:
- Producers
- Cutters and polishers
- Recycled diamond suppliers
- Traders
- Dealers
- Jewelry manufacturers
- Retailers
Technical Providers
Companies providing diamond testing and inspection services as part of the AIDI-ESG Origin Traceability Assurance Protocol are eligible for technical accreditation, including gemological assurance centers and grading laboratories. These companies must demonstrate compliance with applicable standard requirements and the ability to provide services in line with the AIDI-ESG Origin Certification Laboratory Accreditation Handbook.
- The process begins once AIDI and the applicant sign a confidentiality agreement and agree on the scope of work.
- The applicant provides details about their procedures.
- AIDI reviews the information, assesses compliance, and issues preliminary conclusions.
- The applicant has 60 days to correct any observed non-compliances.
- Upon demonstrating compliance, the applicant receives a provisional certification certificate.
- AIDI completes market surveillance sampling and compliance testing using trace element fingerprinting for independent verification.
- If no testing errors are found, the applicant receives a final certification certificate after 12 months.
