This joint venture aims to merge the prestige of natural diamonds with the passion of sports fandom, creating a new category of investment-driven collectibles.
AthleteGEM is the brainchild of Bhavya Vaghasia, VD Global’s CEO of luxury, and Danny White, CEO of White Rocks, a company known for guiding high-net-worth clients in luxury jewelry acquisitions. Together, they are launching a collection of exclusive memorabilia featuring polished diamonds laser-inscribed with an athlete’s signature, a personal message, and a unique edition number—crafted into wearable collectibles.
Each purchase includes a story card detailing the athlete’s journey and a digital time capsule with a personalized message from the sports star. The first collection features 100 athletes from various disciplines, including Burkina Faso’s world-record-holding triple jumper, Hugues Fabrice Zango. Each athlete will have 21 diamond collectibles available in different carat sizes to cater to varying budgets.
“The natural diamond industry needs a spark—a return to the power of storytelling,” said White. “Athletes, with their journeys of perseverance and triumph, are the perfect ambassadors to reignite this industry. We’re not just preserving an industry; we’re giving it new life.”
AthleteGEM’s second collection, set to launch next month, will introduce an innovative twist: collectors will receive both a rough, uncut diamond symbolizing the raw challenges of an athlete’s career and a polished diamond representing their ultimate triumph. Buyers can collaborate with athletes and designers to transform these gems into custom jewelry pieces like pendants, rings, or bracelets.
