Nick Selby, CEO and managing director of Lucapa Diamond Company, has announced his resignation due to health issues, according to a statement from the Australian miner.
Leadership Transition
Selby, who joined Lucapa in 2014 and became CEO last year, expressed regret over stepping down during a pivotal time for the company. “It is with deep regret that I find myself stepping back just as the company is poised to deliver on the long-awaited Kimberlite majority share and Merlin work streams,” Selby said.
Lucapa’s group operations manager Alex Kidman has been named as Selby’s replacement, effective immediately.
A Mining Legacy
Under Selby’s leadership, Lucapa:
- Oversaw operations at the Lulo diamond mine in Angola, which has been in commercial production since 2015.
- Expanded its portfolio with the recent acquisition of the Merlin diamond mine in Australia’s Northern Territory.
- Sold its stake in the Mothae mine in Lesotho earlier this year.
The company’s chair, former De Beers co-CEO Stuart Brown, will continue guiding the miner’s strategic direction during this leadership transition.
