Mercedes Abramo, the former head of Cartier’s North American division and recent deputy chief commercial officer, has announced her departure from the iconic jewelry brand. She shared the news in a LinkedIn post, marking the end of her 15-year tenure with Cartier.
Abramo began her career with Cartier in 2008 as the director of its New York flagship, following a similar role at Tiffany. In 2014, she became the first woman to be named president and CEO of Cartier North America. Her rise through the ranks continued, and in early 2023, she was appointed deputy chief commercial officer, based out of Geneva.
At the time of writing, it is unclear who will take over her role, as Cartier did not respond to requests for comment.
In her LinkedIn farewell post, Abramo reflected on her journey, saying, “Saying farewell to the wonderful maison Cartier is not easy, and I am filled with a mix of emotions as I think back on 16.5 years of achievements and experiences.”
She continued, “I have often said to my teams that we are just a chapter in Cartier’s rich history. Our role is to leave an imprint on the legacy of the maison and know that the creations of today will be the treasures of tomorrow.”
Abramo’s contributions were recognized throughout her career. In 2020, Jewelers for Children honored her at the Facets of Hope event during the JCK show in Las Vegas. Two years earlier, she received the Visionary Award from the Women’s Jewelry Association. Additionally, she served as a board member for Jewelers of America and J.M. Smucker Co.
