Monnickendam Diamonds has announced the appointment of Matthew Girling, a seasoned jewelry expert with 45 years of industry experience, as its new Chief of Staff.
Girling’s extensive career began with his gemology certification from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) while working at Garrard & Co., the prestigious crown jeweler, in 1982. He later gained significant auction house experience, first joining Bonhams in 1988 before moving to Christie’s London and Geneva.
After rejoining Bonhams in 1996, Girling quickly ascended the ranks, becoming Global Director of Jewelry in 2000 and eventually Global CEO in 2014. Since 2020, he has operated as an independent jewelry consultant, specializing in valuations, buying, and selling high-value pieces.
“I am thrilled to join Arthur Monnickendam and the team in London,” said Girling. “Monnickendam Diamonds has an incredible legacy, established in the UK since 1890. It remains the only diamond-cutting house in the country. Arthur represents the fifth generation of this historic family business, and I look forward to working alongside him to drive strategic growth.”
With Girling’s unparalleled expertise, Monnickendam Diamonds is poised to strengthen its legacy and navigate the evolving jewelry landscape. Will his leadership usher in a new era for the brand?
